Black Rooster Kapelye draw on the largely forgotten repertoire of Latvia's Jewish communities, breathing new life into songs and melodies collected by Latvian folklorist Emīlis Melngailis in the early 20th century. Their sound weaves Yiddish song, Latvian folk melody, and klezmer into something joyful, mournful, and utterly alive — music that crosses borders and brings people together around a shared human story.
